April 28, Greenwood Cup 1st Round v. GU Staff

In true relegation-threatened style, BBC Scotland weren't overly concerned by the result of their cup tie at home to the GU Staff, although the target set of 182 - the highest ever conceded by the Beeb - took any prospect of an upset out of the equation rather earlier than expected. Humphrey Bell and Gourav Sindhe wasted no time with both their fifties coming in fewer than 50 balls each. There was a sense that everyone was still getting their eye in with a plethora of extras and misfields that the captain can only hope will be eradicated as the season progresses. "It's simple: drop a catch, I'll cut your head off," said Holmes, with brutal efficiency. Still, bowlers David Blane and Phil Goodlad can be happy with a brace of wickets each that will inspire confidence in games to come.

For the batsmen, the story was more encouraging. Only Jack McGill failed to reach double figures and Nick Rougvie's personal best of 39* was acheived in a manner that suggested he had somewhere else to be, which, in David Blane's case, was the literal truth. 131 is certainly the kind of score the BBC will be hoping to emulate now they can concentrate on the league.

GU Staff: 182-6
BBC: 131-5
MOTM: Nick Rougvie
