BBC outclassed by prolific panthers

Shawholm is not a ground that holds happy memories for the BBC Scotland CC. Last season’s defeat in the Greenwood Trophy to Poloc Panthers was comprehensive. The result in the league fixture on Tuesday evening was even more crushing. The narrow defeat of this season’s Greenwood Trophy match at Titwood now seems a distant memory.

The match started well for the BBC, with Qayyum taking a wicket on the first ball of the innings. But the good fortune did not last. Although wickets fell, they were bought with a lot of runs. The batting display was simply superb, and had the BBC been neutral observers it would have been very enjoyable to watch. However, they were not. And it wasn’t.

Having been set a target of 191, Jose and Mellis took to the crease. Jose was bowled lbw on the second ball of the innings, which had certain symmetry to it. But when Blane was clean bowled on the fourth ball of the same over, it was clear that an historic win was far from likely.

By the time the whole side had been dismissed, there was a total of six ducks. The only positive words that can be said are that Bashir showed talent beyond his years. He was highest scorer with 14 runs to his name. Special mention must surely also go to Moffat, who scored 13 runs, with three magnificent fours.

The BBC were also grateful for the efforts of ‘extras’ who contributed 19 runs to the total of 62.

Nets are on Sundays at 10am.
