Parish News

As the last league match of the seaon approaches, intrigue swirls around the Western District Cricket Union Evening League Division Two with rumours that GU Staff will do anything NOT to be promoted.

What started as a few rumblings among the lower-order batsmen of the BBC has turned into a pandemic following the Biologists' decision, for the same reason, too not to claim three points from one of their earlier conceded matches.

Despite the misgivings of fellow players, skipper David Holmes dismissed talk of promotion, "It's premature to speculate on who will or won't be promoted. The weather over the last couple of weeks has been excellent, and some of the bottom placed clubs may have caught up on unplayed games."

Looking ahead to tonight's game against East Kilbride, Holmsey was adamant the Beeb would be playing to win even if it guaranteed promotion. "We want this win. We want to end the season on a high. We've only won two league matches and there's a feeling of unfinished business after losing to East Kilbride in the last over at Titwood. So of course we'll be playing to win."

In other news, highlights - or rather, lowlights - of the first round of the Greenwood Cup at home to the GU Staff are now up on the Club's Facebook page. The Facebook group surpassed fifty members today. Woop!

Finally, the end of season dinner will be organised for the end of the month. Please let Jack McGill know your availability by the end of this week.

That is all.
